Orlando Bloom has abruptly exited the independent film "Reset," a move that has reportedly caused significant disruption for the cast and crew and potentially jeopardized the project's completion.
The 49-year-old actor was slated to co-star in the thriller alongside Priyanka Chopra, who is also serving as a producer on the film. Bloom had been confirmed for the role throughout the pre-production phase but left the project at the last minute, according to sources cited by TMZ.
His departure has reportedly created what insiders described as "fiery resentment" among coworkers who may now face professional uncertainty. Bloom's initial involvement, alongside Chopra, was instrumental in securing investor funding and facilitating international distribution for the independent movie. The film's status remains unclear as production is scheduled to commence.
Producers are reportedly in the process of identifying three potential actors to replace Bloom, with time being a critical factor as filming is set to begin. Chopra is expected to make the final decision on casting, provided the film moves forward.
The film's premise centers on a woman, played by Chopra, who awakens in the wilderness with amnesia and must rely on a charming stranger, Bloom's former role, for survival, though his true intentions are uncertain. Director Matt Smukler had previously praised the chemistry between Bloom and Chopra, telling Deadline in May that they possessed an "undeniable" ability to portray both attraction and mistrust simultaneously.
Producers Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber had also expressed enthusiasm in May about bringing the story, described as a gripping tale of survival, romance, suspense, and deceit with shocking twists, to the screen with the two actors.
Bloom, known for his roles in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Lord of the Rings" franchises, has several projects in the pipeline, including Werner Herzog's "Bucking Fastard" and the comedy "Wizards!". Chopra's recent work includes the adventure film "The Bluff" and the upcoming comedy "Heads of State," as well as her lead role in the Prime Video series "Citadel."
