Several members of the original Skins cast reunited this week, prompting an emotional response from fans who remembered the E4 teen drama that first aired in 2007.
Kaya Scodelario posted a series of images and short clips on Instagram showing herself with Nicholas Hoult, Daniel Kaluuya and Joe Dempsie. Scodelario captioned the post: “The way I used to pray for brothers growing up – knowing I have you all now is everything.”
Fans reacted on X and other social platforms, with comments noting nostalgia and admiration. One user wrote, “This has really put me in my feels,” while others posted, “I love seeing the Skins cast still interacting with each other to this day,” “Makes me feel so old!” and “So much talent in one pic.”
Skins launched on E4 in 2007 and drew attention for its frank portrayal of adolescence in Britain, charting storylines that included sex, drug use and mental health struggles. Created by Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, the series was structured to introduce new ensembles over successive series, but the original group of characters and their story arcs were central to the first two seasons.
Several members of that initial ensemble used the show as a springboard to high-profile careers. Nicholas Hoult, who played Tony Stonem, was 17 when Skins began and later appeared in films including the X-Men series, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Favourite and The Menu. He is also set to play Lex Luthor in an upcoming Superman film. Kaya Scodelario, cast as Effy at 14 with no previous acting experience, became a prominent screen actor in projects such as Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. Daniel Kaluuya, who portrayed Posh Kenneth, won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for Judas and the Black Messiah in 2021. Dev Patel, another alumnus, has also received Academy Award nominations.
Within the show, characters such as Tony and Effy became cultural touchstones for younger viewers at the time. Tony was written as charismatic and manipulative; Effy was portrayed as enigmatic and increasingly central to the programme’s later plots. The last episode to feature the original group of cast members aired in April 2008 and was titled “Final Goodbyes.”
Producers and cast members have periodically reflected on the show’s legacy, with many former cast members pursuing acting, directing, academia and other careers. Skins remains available to stream on Channel 4, where its influence on British television drama and youth culture continues to be noted by critics and fans alike.
