Vanity Fair announced on its website Thursday that Olivia Nuzzi has joined the publication as its West Coast editor, signaling a notable shift for the journalist from political reporting to a broader culture-and-entertainment beat and expanding the magazine's footprint on the West Coast.
Under the new role, Nuzzi will edit stories across platforms and topic areas, with a focus on events, industries and culture of the Pacific region, as well as writing for the magazine, Vanity Fair said. "In this new role, she will be editing stories across platforms and topic areas, with a focus on events, industries, and culture of the Pacific region, as well as writing for the magazine," VF said. Nuzzi posted on X, formerly Twitter, that she was "honored" to land the role.
Nuzzi left New York magazine in October 2024 after acknowledging a personal relationship with RFK Jr., the activist-turned-presidential candidate who later became a loyalist to President Trump. The relationship was online rather than in person, but she told CNN that it should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict.
Nuzzi profiled RFK Jr. for New York magazine in November 2023, when he was still campaigning as an independent candidate. They met in person only for the interview, and their subsequent relationship developed online.
Kennedy tied the knot with Cheryl Hines in 2014, the actor best known for the comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The announcement positions Vanity Fair to cover West Coast events, industries and culture with a journalist who has long followed political stories from inside the capital and beyond, and who now brings that reporting experience to a broader cultural lens.
Readers and industry observers will watch how Nuzzi's transition influences VF's West Coast coverage as the magazine continues to recruit talent with deep media and political knowledge.
