An Ohio woman who says she survived two near-death episodes describes a vision of a bright room and an encounter with a divine figure that she says altered her understanding of life and death.
Pegi Robinson, 64, told the Daily Mail that her first close brush with death occurred at age 5 when she drowned in a local pond. She said a second, more detailed experience happened at 25, when she was two months pregnant with twins and was rushed to a hospital after severe pelvic pain and heavy bleeding.
Robinson said she lost contact with her body as she was being wheeled into an exam room. "I had lost contact with my body. I couldn't tell it what to do. I felt like I was going to pass out and then my chin hit my chest. Suddenly, I shot up like a rocket through space. I was terrified. I knew I had just died," she recalled. She described travelling through galaxies and arriving in a "bright white room" where she said she was brought before a central figure she identified as God.
In her account, Robinson said she pleaded to be returned to Earth to care for her children but that the figure dismissed her as a "spoiled child." She described being shown a scene in which a child demanded what he wanted immediately, which she said was meant to prompt humility. Robinson said she saw a man she identified as Jesus standing and that, after a moment beside him, she and that figure descended toward her trailer home. Through a view into her home, she said she saw her sons talking about her death. The sight of her youngest son's anguish convinced her to return. "I sobbed at Jesus' feet, with God sitting beside him," she said, adding that she then awoke in the hospital and regained feeling slowly.
Doctors later told Robinson that she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy, a condition in which a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, typically in a fallopian tube. An ectopic pregnancy can cause internal bleeding and is sometimes life-threatening; Robinson said it led to massive internal bleeding that filled her abdominal cavity and that she lost both fetuses.
Robinson described lasting changes after the episode. She said she now believes "there is no such thing as dying" and that humans are never truly alone. She told the Daily Mail that she feels the memories shown by a divine presence are stored in the soul and can be used by God to educate and guide people. "God gives us memories to educate us," she said. "The older and wiser we get, the more we're able to process them. God can show you a scene from your future that never has to happen. He can slow down or speed up time. It's what we need at that time to understand how we were loved and protected by him. I am filled with gratitude every day of my life for God allowing me to come back and raise my boys."
Robinson's account reflects elements commonly reported in near-death experience narratives, including an out-of-body sensation, travel through dark or cosmic space, encounters with bright light or divine figures, and a life review or scene showing loved ones. Near-death experiences have been the subject of scientific, religious and cultural discussion; interpretations vary widely among medical researchers, psychologists, theologians and people who report such events.
Robinson framed her experiences as personal revelation rather than empirical proof. Her account, as recounted to the Daily Mail, is a firsthand testimony of events she says occurred during two episodes in which she nearly died. She has described herself as "an expert in cheating her own demise," saying her survival and subsequent understanding of those moments shaped her spiritual life and parenting.
She continues to speak about the events with gratitude for surviving and raising her children. The medical diagnosis that followed her hospital visit — an ectopic pregnancy with significant internal bleeding — is consistent with a condition that requires urgent care and can be fatal if not treated. Beyond that clinical context, Robinson's narrative joins a broader public dialogue about the meaning and impact of near-death experiences on individuals' beliefs and lives.
