The reunion concert by the band Oasis at Cardiff's Principality Stadium was a "hugely emotional" experience that surprised Noel Gallagher, according to the directors of a new film documenting their comeback tour. The film, "Don't Look Back In Anger," captures the brothers' return to the stage following a 15-year separation.
Directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern spoke about the tour's opening gig, noting the profound emotional impact on attendees. "You saw grown men who probably rarely express their emotions crying and hugging each other," Southern said. He added that Noel Gallagher himself admitted in the film to having "completely underestimated what it would be like, and it really did kind of hit him hard."
Lovelace identified the initial moments before taking the stage in Cardiff and the performance of the first song as a significant turning point, both for the tour and for the narrative of the film. The directors also observed an evolution in the relationship between Liam and Noel Gallagher as the tour progressed.
The film reveals that "Columbia" was the first song rehearsed during the reunion sessions. The band had been working on the setlist under Noel's direction prior to Liam's arrival. "There was no kind of big entrance," Lovelace recalled. "He walked in and said ''should we do this then?' and then [the band went] straight into a two-hour set."
