Notting Hill Carnival, Europe's largest street party, celebrated its 60th anniversary with a vibrant display of culture, food, and community. Traders began preparations early on Monday for the event, which marks a significant milestone.

Lorraine, who runs the Luv Jerk food stand, described the hard work involved, with her team starting setup at 2:00 AM BST. "It is really hard work but it is really fun," she said. "This being its 60th year, we're really excited to bring all the energy and the great food and to serve all the lovely customers." Lorraine highlighted ackee and saltfish, the Jamaican national dish, as a personal favorite she could eat at any meal.

For Jackie of Jay Dee's Catering, the 60th anniversary of Carnival also coincides with her own milestone, having participated for 15 years. "I've done Carnival for 15 years," she stated, acknowledging the demanding nature of the event. "I got three hours' sleep last night and I'm back here again."

Jackie emphasized the strong sense of community and repeat patronage. "Most of the customers, they come again every year, we see the same faces," she observed. "It's such an exciting time, coming together, seeing all of these lovely costumes and lovely people – we are the greatest when we come together as people and come as one."

The anniversary event draws participants and attendees from diverse backgrounds, showcasing a rich tapestry of Caribbean culture through music, dance, and elaborate costumes.

The carnival's enduring appeal lies in its ability to foster unity and celebrate heritage, bringing together hundreds of thousands of people annually.
