Nigella Lawson, 66, attributes her famously youthful appearance not to cosmetic procedures, but to a lifelong "allergy to the sun" and a diet that embraces high-fat foods like butter. The acclaimed cookbook author and judge on "The Great British Bake Off" stated that she believes there is "no point" to cosmetic work, such as Botox or fillers.
Lawson explained that her aversion to the sun is a significant factor in maintaining her skin's condition. "I'm also allergic to the sun so I don't go into the sun and that makes a difference," she told The Mirror. "It's been [that way] my whole life, but it's got worse. I just can't go in it. It's a bore, actually."
Experts confirm that a severe reaction to sunlight, medically known as photodermatitis or a sun allergy, can occur when the immune system overreacts to UV exposure, leading to rashes on sun-exposed skin. Additionally, dermatologists often cite avoiding the sun's UV rays as a key strategy for preserving youthful-looking skin.
Lawson's approach to skincare contrasts with the increasing trend of cosmetic "tweakments." She described this trend as a "tyranny" and expressed her refusal to partake.
In other recent news, Lawson generated amusement among "Bake Off" fans with an April Fools' Day joke on Instagram. She posted a stylized selfie with her fellow judge, Paul Hollywood, humorously suggesting they were detectives solving crimes, rather than co-hosts of the baking competition. The post, which garnered significant attention from her 3.1 million followers, featured Lawson in a white blazer with styled hair and makeup, while Hollywood wore a white shirt and black jacket.
Lawson joined "The Great British Bake Off" as a judge for its 17th series, taking over from Prue Leith, who stepped down after nine years. Leith expressed her approval of Lawson's appointment, describing her as "sassy, fun and she knows her onions." Leith stated her decision to leave the show stemmed from a "desire to work less and play more," allowing for summer holidays, a timing challenge with the show's filming schedule. Lawson herself expressed excitement about joining the program, calling it a "National Treasure" and an "enormous honor."
