Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock surprised fans with an appearance at a Cinespia screening of their 1998 film "Practical Magic" at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The reunion comes just weeks before the highly anticipated sequel, "Practical Magic 2," is set to hit theaters on September 11.
During the event, a clip shared on Instagram showed the audience erupting with excitement as Kidman and Bullock took the stage. Bullock commented on the suitability of the film for the cemetery setting, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kidman expressed gratitude for the crowd's support in making the second film a reality.
Makeshift "midnight margaritas," sponsored by Astral Tequila, were shared by the actresses in a nod to a memorable scene from the original movie. They were joined by Joey King and Maisie Williams, who will portray Bullock's onscreen daughters in the upcoming sequel.
Kidman, 59, and Bullock, 62, are set to reprise their roles as orphaned sisters Gillian and Sally Owens in "Practical Magic 2." The original film, released in 1998, was based on Alice Hoffman's 1995 novel of the same name and followed the Owens sisters, who come from a long line of witches. The original movie also featured Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as the girls' eccentric aunts.
Akiva Goldsman, a co-writer of the 1998 script, has returned to pen the sequel, collaborating with Kelly Marcel and Georgia Pritchett. Both Kidman and Bullock are also serving as producers on the new film, with Susanne Bier directing.
Despite its initial lukewarm box office performance, earning $68.3 million globally against a $75 million budget, "Practical Magic" achieved cult classic status. Alice Hoffman has since written three additional books exploring the Owens family's history, driven by reader demand for more stories about the characters. Hoffman has previously stated her desire to explore the characters' pasts, delving into their history in 1960s Greenwich Village, New York City.
