Actress Nicole Kidman has shared her penchant for attending raves in Ibiza, often adopting a disguised persona to blend in.
Kidman, 59, described her holiday activities on the party island in an interview with British Vogue, which can range from intimate dinner parties to late-night clubbing. "It's a small dinner party or it's a rave. I'm either playing Scrabble or I'm out. It's that simple," she said.
Her clubbing routine typically starts with dinner around 10:30 p.m., followed by a club visit at 1 a.m. To maintain her anonymity, Kidman wears sunglasses and sometimes a dark wig. "Sometimes I'll wear a wig to hide, a little dark wig, and then I can just dance," she explained. She added that she feels comfortable as long as she is with a group of friends, stating, "As long as I'm surrounded by people – like, I take people with me – then I'm fine. I need it."
Singer Charli XCX recounted Kidman's appearance at her New York "Brat" tour show, expressing surprise at the actress's attendance. In a 2024 interview with People, Kidman described herself as shy but explained her desire to attend raves as a way to "lose it" on the dance floor.
Kidman further clarified in a conversation with Amelia Dimoldenberg after the 2024 GQ Men of the Year event that her preference leans towards techno music and warehouse raves, identifying herself as "a person of extremes."
Music has long played a significant role in Kidman's life. In a 2017 interview, she spoke about music's emotional impact and how her marriage to musician Keith Urban ensured music was a constant presence in their home.
In the same British Vogue interview, Kidman also reflected on her life following her split from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage. She described entering a "new chapter" with an "open heart" and adopting a "feelings-centred" approach to life's decisions. While acknowledging that she can still approach situations intellectually, she expressed a desire not to be ruled by her head. "I've always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities," she stated.
Kidman acknowledged that life has not always unfolded as she expected. "But at the same time I'm like, "OK, I didn't expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now." You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it's all going to be like and then it's…not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it's completely unknown to me right now," she said.
When asked if this uncertainty was frightening, Kidman admitted to periods of fear and vulnerability but chose to move forward with hope. "There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing. And then at the same time I'm going, "Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope."
Kidman has two daughters with Keith Urban, Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15, and two adopted children, Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
