Nicole Kidman has revealed that when she married Tom Cruise at age 23, she was willing to abandon her career for their relationship. The actress, now 59, told British Vogue that falling "madly in love" with Cruise made the decision feel natural at the time.

"I remember people saying to me, ‘OK, well this is really going to affect your career.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married,’" Kidman recalled. She added that at the time, she thought, "Of course I’ll throw my career away. I don’t care."

Kidman and Cruise met on the set of "Days of Thunder" and married on Christmas Eve in 1990. They adopted daughter Isabella in 1992 and son Connor in 1995 before divorcing in 2001.

In a 2012 interview with DuJour, Kidman described herself as "so impulsive and naive" when she married Cruise in her early 20s, stating, "I was reeling with Tom. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him."

Following their divorce, Kidman experienced significant career resurgence, notably with "Moulin Rouge!" She later explained that she immersed herself in work during that period of personal upheaval. "I wasn’t able to handle the reality of my life," she shared at a 2015 summit, finding solace in acting. "And as an actor, you have this wonderful thing where you can go and get lost in somebody else’s life and become somebody else for a period of time."

Kidman later married country singer Keith Urban in 2006, with whom she has two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. In her British Vogue interview, Kidman reflected on her two marriages, noting that navigating divorce is not any easier the second time around.

"It’s all new. Every time!" she said. Kidman also commented on her increased comfort with public attention on her personal life, contrasting it with her younger years married to Cruise. "Strangely enough, I feel comfortable. Is that weird? That’s so weird," she told the outlet, adding, "But you have to remember literally, because of who I married at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22."

She concluded by stating that while she didn't anticipate her current life circumstances, she is adapting. "You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not. You have to adjust. You adapt," Kidman said. She also confirmed she is "embracing love" in her current life phase.
