Nicholas Hoult, known for his roles in the "X-Men" franchise, "Superman," and "Mad Max: Fury Road," has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in the upcoming Harry Potter television series. The English actor, 36, will bring the flamboyant Hogwarts professor, originally portrayed by Sir Kenneth Branagh in the film adaptations, to life.

In J.K. Rowling's books, Lockhart is a famous author of books such as "Magical Me" before joining Hogwarts as a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry's second year. HBO announced Hoult's casting by quoting the character's autobiography and a signature line: "Magical me indeed. Now, how many autographs would you like?"

The TV adaptation of Rowling's best-selling novels is slated to premiere this Christmas. However, audiences will have to wait until the second season to see Hoult's portrayal of Lockhart. The series is being developed for HBO.
