Disney+ introduces "Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi," a new animated limited series from Japanese animation studio Production I.G. The series expands the Star Wars universe with a story centered on a group of Jedi striving to prevent galactic chaos.

The narrative unfolds in an era where the Jedi and Sith have largely disappeared, leading to the extinction of lightsabers and the rise of warlords. The story's central conflict arises when the last known lightsaber craftsman, Lah Zhima (voiced by Simu Liu), is taken captive by a powerful enemy. A ragtag group of Jedi, including Lah Kara (Kimiko Glenn), must embark on a perilous mission to rescue Zhima and counter the encroaching Sith forces.

Led by Margrave Juro (Andrew Kishino), the Jedi crew attempts to evade capture by General Nawaam's (Young Mazino) forces, led by Commander Gennoh Ikagi (Feodor Chin). A risky maneuver involving the droid Gramps (J. P. Karliak) leads them to seek refuge in the free city-state of Makoma Ko, ruled by former Jedi Dunbai (Brent Mukai). Dunbai, now a merchant, is initially reluctant to intervene but is compelled to act when Nawaam's forces launch an assault on Makoma Ko.

Meanwhile, Juro's crew infiltrates Gennoh's ship, where Kara confronts the commander. Despite being outmatched and learning of her father's potential cooperation with Nawaam, Kara manages to hold off Gennoh, allowing Gramps to disable his droids. This temporary reprieve is overshadowed by the knowledge that Nawaam still holds Zhima.

The Jedi regroup, sending Ethan (Masi Oka) undercover to infiltrate Nawaam's operations. The series promises to explore shocking revelations and dangerous situations as the Jedi face Nawaam, whose true identity and motives remain unknown, and grapple with Zhima's possible duplicity.

"The Ninth Jedi" is noted for its fast-paced storytelling and impressive animation, which vividly portrays lightsaber battles and character interactions. The series, comprised of eight approximately 30-minute episodes, is described as highly bingeable. The voice cast, including contributions from Kimiko Glenn, Simu Liu, and Young Mazino, is credited with bringing the characters to life.

This installment is the latest addition to the "Star Wars: Visions" anthology, which showcases unique interpretations of the Star Wars galaxy from different animation studios. "The Ninth Jedi" aims to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise, with the potential to influence future Disney+ Original productions.
