A new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic frontier novels, "Little House on the Prairie," is set to premiere on Netflix on July 9. The series is described by Netflix as a reimagining of Wilder's books, aiming to bring the 19th-century stories to a new generation while appealing to existing fans.

Actor Warren Christie, who plays John Edwards, a character known in the books as Mr. Edwards, spoke about the expectations surrounding the project. "You see the name, 'Little House on the Prairie,' and it obviously carries a certain history to it, a certain cachet," Christie told Fox News Digital. He added that he was impressed by the writing and scope of the first few episodes.

In the new adaptation, John Edwards is portrayed as a Civil War veteran from Tennessee. Netflix describes him as a "gregarious and mysterious man who catches the eye of every single woman in the county." Christie noted that when viewers first meet his character, Edwards is struggling after losing his family and dealing with other issues. The Ingalls family's influence, he said, helps him find hope and community.

Christie indicated that the showrunner, Rebecca Sonneshine, approached the project with a deep respect for Wilder's novels. "If you're a true fan of a book, we did everything we could to make sure that that storytelling was told in the right way," Christie explained. "It's huge, and it means a lot to people. And so we're very proud of the show."

Netflix is positioning the series as part of its lineup of "wholesome" and "heartwarming" content, alongside shows like "Virgin River" and "Sweet Magnolias." Christie expressed hope that the new "Little House on the Prairie" will be a show that families can watch together.

"I hope at the end of the day what we've done is created a really exciting world that multiple generations can share and enjoy together. And it's the underlying thing of the whole show, which is community," Christie said. Netflix describes the series as a blend of family drama, survival tale, and origin story of the American West.
