The upcoming season of BBC's "Celebrity Traitors" is set to deliver "tears" and "off the scale" paranoia, according to the broadcaster's director of entertainment, Ed Havard. Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Havard indicated that this season will feature events and emotional reactions that surpass previous installments of the popular reality competition.
Competitors in this series include a lineup of well-known figures from music, acting, and comedy, such as Miranda Hart, Michael Sheen, Richard E. Grant, Jerry Hall, James Blunt, Bella Ramsey, Rob Beckett, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett, Joanne McNally, James Acaster, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Sharon Rooney, King Kenny, Myha'la, Professor Hannah Fry, and Sebastian Croft. A trailer released for the new season showed many of these stars appearing somber while gathered in the Chapel of St John the Baptist at Ardross Castle in Scotland, with host Claudia Winkleman observing.
In "Celebrity Traitors," a group of contestants are secretly assigned the roles of "traitors" with the objective of eliminating the "faithfuls" without revealing their identity. The faithfuls, in turn, must identify and banish the traitors. Havard remarked on the intensity of the game, stating, "The thing about this season is, things happen that you didn't think could happen on Traitors." He added, "The paranoia is off the scale." He also humorously noted his own instinct to intervene, saying, "I really wanted to step in and go, ‘no one is actually being murdered.’"
The BBC's director of entertainment confirmed the heightened emotional element, stating, "I don't want to give too much away, but there are tears in this series." The visually striking trailer depicted the celebrity contestants looking notably downcast, contrasting with their public personas.
Host Claudia Winkleman, who is also featured in the new season, is known for her flamboyant style, often seen in crisp shirts and tailored suits. This season marks her return to the BBC following the cancellation of her talk show after a single series. The setting at Ardross Castle in Scotland provided a dramatic backdrop for the filming of the new "Celebrity Traitors" episodes.
