Netflix will release the limited crime-thriller series Black Rabbit on Thursday, Sept. 18, the streamer confirmed. All eight episodes of the series will be available to stream the same day.
Black Rabbit stars Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers Jake and Vince, whose pursuit of success and duty to family push them into increasingly dangerous territory. The series, created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, centers on Jake’s Black Rabbit, a restaurant and VIP lounge in New York that is on the verge of becoming the city’s hottest spot. Vince’s unexpected return to the business reopens old traumas and sets events in motion that threaten what the brothers have built.
The cast also includes Cleopatra Coleman, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Amaka Okafor and Troy Kotsur. The series held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last weekend. Netflix released a trailer for Black Rabbit in August.
The show generated additional attention at the Emmy Awards on Sept. 14, when Law and Bateman appeared onstage to present the award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. The statuette that night went to Tramell Tillman for his role on Severance.
Baylin, whose previous credits include Bob Marley: One Love and King Richard, and Susman developed Black Rabbit as a limited series for Netflix. The streamer’s synopsis describes a story driven by familial obligation, power dynamics within a high-profile hospitality business and the resurgence of past wounds when a brother returns to the fold.
Critics at TIFF offered early reactions following the premiere, noting the series’ focus on character and tension, though full critical consensus will expand once the episodes are widely available. With a single-date drop of all eight episodes, Netflix follows a release model that allows viewers to binge the limited run immediately.
Black Rabbit joins a growing slate of prestige limited series that leverage star casting and festival premieres to build momentum ahead of streaming releases. The series will be available worldwide on Netflix beginning Sept. 18.
