Netflix has renewed the drama series The Hunting Wives for a second season, the streamer announced Sept. 12.
Series creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter said in the streamer’s statement that she was "so excited to write these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook." The renewal was shared in a social-media video featuring lead actors Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, who closed the clip with Akerman’s tease: "Pack your boots and load your guns. We’re going back to Maple Brook for Season 2, baby!"
According to Netflix’s Season 2 logline, the new installment will open with Snow’s Sophie and Akerman’s Margo "on the outs," but "soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together." The logline adds that as the characters "play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?"
The Hunting Wives, adapted from May Cobb’s 2021 novel, premiered on Netflix last season and is currently streaming on the platform. Cutter said in a previous interview with Decider that the show’s central relationship would remain the focus if it were renewed, and that she had storylines in mind that mix the personal arcs of Sophie and Margo with ongoing murder-mystery threads. She also mentioned the potential introduction of a reality show plotline and new characters, and noted the presence of two law-enforcement characters, Salazar and Flynn, who could figure into future investigations.
Season 2’s returning leads will be joined by Jamie Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit and George Ferrier, according to Netflix. The streamer did not immediately announce a production start date or a premiere window for the new season.
The Hunting Wives blends domestic drama with crime elements as it follows the secrets and rivalries of a suburban community; its renewal follows viewer interest in the series since its debut. Netflix’s announcement on Friday formalizes plans to continue the storylines established in the first season and confirms Cutter’s role in shaping the show’s next chapter.
