Netflix has officially renewed its adaptation of "Little House on the Prairie" for a second season, with production already in progress. While an official release date has not yet been announced, the new episodes are anticipated to arrive in 2027.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine shared that the upcoming season will continue to draw inspiration from the original book series and explore "our Walnut Grove." Actor Crosby Fitzgerald, who plays a role in the series, teased that the second season might feature the iconic underground dugout house, hinting at possible plot points without revealing specific details.
The first season of the series, which premiered on Netflix, follows the Ingalls family's journey from Wisconsin to establish a new home in Kansas. The production was filmed on location in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with the aim of transporting viewers to the 1800s. The cast has emphasized their commitment to realism, with Fitzgerald recounting experiences such as filming wagon scenes.
At the close of the first season, the Ingalls family makes a move to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. This location is based on the real-life town where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived and is now a tourist destination featuring the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum and a pageant honoring the author. The first season of "Little House on the Prairie" is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
