Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the second season of its hit series "The Gentlemen," set to premiere on September 3. The upcoming installment promises to expand the criminal empire introduced in the first season, which became one of the platform's most-viewed shows of 2024, attracting 44 million views in its initial four weeks.
The new trailer offers a glimpse of filming locations in Lake Maggiore, Italy, and features the acting debut of television presenter Maya Jama. She appears briefly, portraying the glamorous wife of an associate of Theo James's character, Eddie Halstead. Jama expressed her excitement on Instagram, noting her brief appearance in the trailer.
"The series picks up one year since Eddie Halstead (Theo James) and Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) joined forces to work together in Bobby Glass's (Ray Winstone) criminal empire overseas," according to the series' official synopsis. As their enterprise grows, Bobby Glass's decisions become increasingly questionable, forcing Eddie and Susie to decide whether to act or risk losing everything.
James, who plays the aristocrat Eddie Halstead, hinted at the direction of the new season. "We've been trying to build on what we did in the first season but make the world bigger, darker," he told The Times. "It's still comedic, hopefully, but I think it's a little richer in terms of the story."
Returning cast members include Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone, Vinnie Jones, Daniel Ings, Ruby Sear, and Joely Richardson. The trailer concludes with Eddie telling Susie, "I have a clear idea of what I want these days... Everything," signaling increased ambition.
New additions to the cast include Hugh Bonneville, known for his role in "Downton Abbey," who will play Lord Hawthorne. His character is described as pivotal to the season's storyline, with a distinctive new look for the actor.
Michele Morrone is also set to star as Cico Maldini.
"The Gentlemen" series is based on Guy Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name. The first season received positive reviews, with a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and an 84% audience score on the Popcornmeter. Viewers on IMDb praised the show for its humor, cast performance, and binge-worthy nature.
