Former "Strictly Come Dancing" professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova reported an abusive colleague to BBC executives in 2024, but was subsequently required to continue working with the individual, according to reports. Bychkova, who joined the show in 2017, allegedly complained to three senior executives about a colleague she claimed made her feel uncomfortable, requesting their intervention to separate them.
Despite her complaints, Bychkova reportedly found herself in the colleague's proximity during "Strictly" recordings. While the BBC offered to investigate the matter and explore options such as reducing the pair's contact time, Bychkova was reportedly distressed that she still had to face the individual. A source familiar with the complaint suggested that Bychkova felt her concerns were downplayed and that the colleague's conduct was being normalized.
Bychkova's friends have questioned whether her allegations played a role in her departure from "Strictly" in March, which coincided with a larger group of professional dancers being cut. The BBC stated that Bychkova "has brought elegance, artistry and unwavering dedication to the ballroom, and she will always remain a cherished member of the Strictly family." The corporation issued a general statement, saying, "While we are not going to comment on individuals or HR processes, when issues are raised with us they are always handled seriously and appropriate action is taken."
The show has experienced other behind-the-scenes controversies, including incidents involving professional dancers and allegations of drug use, although investigations found no proof in the latter case.
