A woman and her daughter investigating unusual sounds on Mount Shasta discovered a large installation of solar-powered speakers hidden in the brush. Karrie Ann Snure and her daughter Jordan were horseback riding when they heard what they described as "apocalyptic" screeching noises emanating from the trees.
Curiosity led the pair off the main path, where they found numerous solar-powered Bluetooth speakers jutting out of the ground. Snure estimated there were between 100 and 200 devices. The majority of the speakers were playing "white noise," which Snure theorized sounded like static due to the un-synced playback of multiple devices. However, some individual speakers broadcasted a sermon that mentioned "salvation," and others played a repeating mantra.
"This is straight apocalyptic," Snure stated in a series of viral videos documenting the find. "Someone is summoning something here."
Snure noted that the installation was located on private property adjacent to California government land. The nearest houses were miles away, leaving the purpose of the speakers unclear. "There wasn’t any houses anywhere close by within miles, and nothing to want to ward off anything from so I guess this was definitely a summoning of some kind," she said.
Mount Shasta is a site associated with various legends, including the New Age belief in a subterranean city called Telos inhabited by descendants of the lost continent of Lemuria. Lore surrounding Lemurians suggests they possess advanced technology and the ability to contact extraterrestrials. The mountain itself is also linked to phenomena involving Native American deities, Sasquatch, and UFOs.
Online viewers proposed their own theories for the speakers, ranging from attempts to attract Bigfoot to cult activity, a deterrent for wildlife, or even a defense system for illicit marijuana cultivation. Others expressed dismay over the littering of electronics in a natural area.
Snure later confirmed the location of the installation on her maps but stated she still does not know who placed the speakers there or why. "I still have absolutely no idea who put them there or why," she wrote, "but at least now we know the mountain wasn’t trying to summon us."
