Claudean Uamaki-Mu, a former contestant on the reality television show "My Kitchen Rules," pleaded guilty to two counts of cruelty to children under 16 on Monday. Rape and multiple other historical abuse charges against Uamaki-Mu were dropped as part of the proceedings.

Uamaki-Mu, who appeared on the show in 2023 with her partner Anthony Mu, was sentenced by Chief Judge Brian Devereaux to two years' imprisonment, with immediate release on parole. Devereaux described the offending as "criminal."

One complainant read a victim impact statement to the court, describing ongoing struggles with complex post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from the abuse. "The symptoms of my diagnosis prevent me from working," the complainant stated, adding, "Every day of my life I experience flashbacks and intrusive memories of the harm that occurred."

Anthony Mu had been charged with several offenses but was found not guilty earlier this year. Following Uamaki-Mu's sentencing, Mu reportedly told reporters outside the court that the allegations were "all lies and bulls***."
