Melissa Garner Lee recounted her "furious" reaction when her husband, music producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee, deleted their invitation to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, believing it was spam. Lee, who has collaborated with Swift on her 2012 album "Red," explained he initially dismissed the text from Swift's manager, thinking it was an attempt to hack his contact list.
In an essay for the Huffington Post, Melissa, a psychotherapist, described her frustration. "Reeling in frustration, I left the room," she wrote. "My jaw was clenched tight, so I purposefully took a deep breath and let it out slowly." Upon her return, Garret questioned her desire to attend, to which she responded that it represented "hope for love! Hope for some good in the world! ... maybe hope in America at a dark time?"
Melissa also expressed disappointment at missing the musical guests, including Stevie Nicks. She further elaborated on her feelings when Garret commented on the heat at the wedding, writing, "We were invited to the wedding of the decade and we didn’t go because it might be too hot? We didn’t even RSVP ‘no.’ How rude is that? (Sorry Taylor and Travis!)."
Swift and Kelce, both 36, were married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in front of approximately 1,000 guests. The ceremony reportedly cost $30 million and was attended by numerous celebrities, including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Nelly, Ethan Hawke, Ed Sheeran, Zoë Kravitz, Hugh Grant, and Jason Sudeikis. Swift's publicist confirmed she wore a Christian Dior haute couture gown, and Adam Sandler officiated.
Despite the initial anger, Melissa stated she forgave her husband after he apologized and made amends. She concluded that the missed wedding was not significant in the context of their relationship, writing, "A missed wedding will not be what breaks us. We’re stronger than that." However, she admitted, "Still, it would’ve been fun to see her dress."
