Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has filed for divorce from his wife, Elle Evans, citing irreconcilable differences. The petition was submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, two days after the couple's seventh wedding anniversary.
Bellamy, 48, is seeking sole legal and physical custody of their six-year-old daughter, Lovella, and their two-year-old son, George. He has also requested that spousal support be awarded to Evans in accordance with their prenuptial agreement.
Evans, 36, has stated that the divorce filing, which she described as "a long time coming," comes less than two months after Bellamy publicly addressed their separation. She has vowed to fight for custody of their children, calling her marriage to Bellamy "unbearable."
The couple began dating 11 years ago after meeting on the set of Muse's "Mercy" music video. They married in Malibu on August 10, 2019. Their daughter, Lovella, was born in 2020, followed by their son, George, in May 2024.
Reports of their separation first surfaced in February of this year, with Bellamy confirming the news in June. He told The i Paper that the separation "threw [him] off" and that he had to "prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home." Bellamy explained that music became his "lifeline" following the split, and he channeled his emotions into Muse's latest album, "The Wow Signal," released on June 26.
Bellamy and Evans' last public appearance together was in March 2025 at the MobLand premiere in London. The arrival of their son George was announced on Instagram, with Evans sharing photos of the family, including Bellamy's ex-fiancée Kate Hudson and their son Bingham, 15. Hudson, who is the mother of Bellamy's eldest son, left a series of red hearts under the birth announcement. Evans noted that George was born on Mother's Day and what would have been her late mother's 60th birthday, and that he was named after Bellamy's father and her parents.
