Filming for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's specials of the BBC sitcom Mrs. Brown's Boys has been canceled due to a medical emergency involving star and creator Brendan O'Carroll. O'Carroll announced on Monday that he requires immediate surgery for a fractured jaw, which will necessitate a recovery period of several months.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the 70-year-old actor revealed that a CT scan confirmed two fractures in his mandible. This injury has forced the postponement of the planned 2026 holiday specials. "It is with sincere regret I must announce that due to an unexpected medical issue I will have to cancel the recordings of the 2026 Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas and New Year's Specials," O'Carroll stated.

Despite the current setback, O'Carroll expressed optimism about the show's future. He is in discussions with the BBC to potentially bring Mrs. Brown's Boys back to screens in 2027. The long-running comedy, which premiered in 2011, features O'Carroll in the lead role as the matriarch Agnes Brown. The series has garnered a significant viewership and multiple comedy awards, including several at the National Television Awards, despite facing criticism over its humor.
