The Godshill Model Village on the Isle of Wight has reinstated a topless streaker figure, nicknamed Erica, following significant public backlash after its initial removal. Directors decided to bring back the figure after an online referendum showed 98% of voters wished for her to remain.
Erica was originally placed on the village's miniature football pitch as a playful reference to the streaking phenomenon of the 1970s and 80s. Village officials had previously decided to remove the figure after receiving a small number of complaints from visitors who deemed it inappropriate for a family attraction.
However, the decision sparked a public outcry, prompting the village to conduct a poll. Following the overwhelming vote in favor of Erica's return, she will be reintroduced, but with a new purpose. Instead of her previous spot on the football pitch, she will be hidden in various locations throughout the village's gardens. Visitors will be encouraged to find her, with donation pots nearby to raise money for a local breast cancer charity.
A spokeswoman for the village stated that Erica's return aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity. "So, if you spot her hiding in the gardens, there will be a donation pot nearby if you'd like to show your support," she said.
