Mischa Barton, known for her role as Marissa Cooper in the early 2000s teen drama "The O.C.", has fueled speculation about a potential reunion of the iconic series. Barton made the remarks while on the red carpet at the Remus Lifestyle Night in Madrid, speaking with German entertainment outlet RTL.

When asked about the possibility of a reunion, particularly in light of recent podcast ventures by co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke, and a separate reunion of actors Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie, Barton stated, "I did the podcast with Melinda and Rachel. There might be a reunion coming up, we'll see… We'll see…"

The O.C. originally aired for four seasons from 2003 to 2007. Barton's character, Marissa Cooper, was a central figure in the show's initial success but departed at the end of the third season. The actress was 17 when she landed the role and has since spoken about the intense pressures of her rapid rise to fame. She has described feeling "unprotected" during her time on the show, citing the overwhelming nature of paparazzi and public scrutiny in Los Angeles at the time.

"Honestly, the fame was a lot to deal with... It was just a very different time in Los Angeles, where you were really being chased around by 20 paparazzi everywhere you went," Barton said, reflecting on the period. She has also spoken candidly about experiencing breakdowns and PTSD stemming from the media attention.

Barton's struggles during that era were publicly documented, including a 2007 arrest for driving under the influence, marijuana possession, and driving without a license. She pleaded no contest and received probation. "The O.C." creator Josh Schwartz later commented on Barton's experience, noting that she was "one of the young women stalked by photographers and treated unkindly by online bloggers," adding that the extent of her fame "would have been very hard for anyone to predict."

Despite the difficulties, Barton expressed that she now looks back on the experience with fondness, acknowledging the significant moments shared during the show's run. The series itself debuted 23 years ago this week.
