Actress Minnie Driver announced she was involved in a serious car accident while traveling on a rural road in France, stating she is "so grateful to be alive." Driver shared the news in an emotional Instagram video posted on Thursday, appearing in a neck brace.
The accident occurred when another vehicle failed to stop at an intersection and collided with the car Driver and her friend, Ben Homewood, were traveling in. Driver emphasized that the crash was "not their fault."
Driver, 56, showed images of the damaged vehicle and herself leaving a hospital with Homewood. She detailed that she sustained a sprained neck and was in shock, experiencing frequent crying spells. However, she expressed confidence in her recovery.
Driver attributed her survival to the safety features of the Kia EV2 they were driving, specifically mentioning the 360-degree airbags and the car's structural integrity. "The reason that I'm not dead Is the car that we were driving," she stated, praising the vehicle's design for preventing the car from collapsing and crushing them.
"This is categorically not a car ad," Driver clarified, before proceeding to commend Kia. "I want to celebrate that car. I'm a Mini driver. Pun intended. I need to celebrate the car that saved us," she added, acknowledging the importance of their families and loved ones.
Driver also extended thanks to a van driver who stopped to assist them before emergency services arrived. In her comments, she noted the contrast with another motorist who slowed down to observe the scene before driving away without stopping.
She described the ongoing process of her brain replaying the crash as difficult but seemingly necessary for processing the event. Driver expressed gratitude to her friends, family, colleagues, and particularly to Ben Homewood and his family.
Ben Homewood is an actor known for his roles in "Missions," "Two Is a Family," and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."
