The animated film 'Minions and Monsters,' the latest in the 'Despicable Me' franchise and the third in the prequel series, is now available for digital purchase and rental. Directed by Pierre Coffin, who also voices the Minions, the film is a period piece set in 1920, focusing on the Minions' attempts to create their own monster movie during the silent film era.
'Minions and Monsters' can be bought or rented digitally starting Tuesday, August 11, on platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home. Prices for digital purchase on Amazon Prime Video are set at $29.99, with rentals available for $24.99, offering a 48-hour viewing window after playback begins. A bundle of all three Minion films is also available for $49.99 on Amazon Prime Video.
The film is scheduled for a physical media release on DVD, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray on September 8, 2026.
While not yet available on subscription-based streaming services, 'Minions and Monsters' is expected to eventually stream on Peacock, a service owned by NBCUniversal. As a Universal Pictures release, it is anticipated to follow a similar pattern to other Universal films, which typically arrive on Peacock after a theatrical run. Based on the release window of 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' which began streaming on Peacock approximately four months after its theatrical debut, 'Minions and Monsters' could potentially be available on the platform in late October or early November 2026. Subscription options for Peacock include a Premium plan with ads for $10.99 per month and an ad-free Premium Plus plan for $16.99 per month, with annual plans offering a discount.
Furthermore, 'Minions and Monsters' is also expected to be released on Netflix. This is part of an existing deal between Universal and Netflix that includes animated movies from Universal, DreamWorks, and Illumination. If the film follows the predicted timeline for its Peacock release, it could arrive on Netflix around April 2027, approximately four months after its Peacock debut. Netflix offers various subscription tiers, starting at $7.99 per month for a standard plan with ads, up to $24.99 per month for an ad-free 4K UHD experience.
