Miley Cyrus said she is “thrilled” that her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, has found a new relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley.

The pair, who went public with their romance about five months ago, appeared together at the National Television Awards on Wednesday, where Hurley joined Billy Ray on the red carpet. Cyrus said she is simply happy to see both her parents in new relationships.

“When you are younger, I think you just view your parents as mom and dad rather than individuals with feelings, with faults, with their own story,” Miley Cyrus told The Mirror. “The most important thing for both my parents is that they are happy, and it's clear to see they both are.”

Billy Ray, 64, and Hurley, 60, have been linked in recent months after the country singer’s split from Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, in 2022 following nearly 30 years of marriage. Tish Cyrus later married actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023.

At the awards, Hurley wore a silver, sheer Zhiago gown with a plunging neckline and a thigh-high split, while Billy Ray opted for an all-black look including a suede jacket and trousers. Hurley attended the event with her son, Damian.

Hurley has said the relationship with Billy Ray has been supportive and domestic details have followed as the couple spend time together in the U.K. She told Hello! magazine that Billy Ray has been teaching her to play guitar, a skill she described as a work in progress. “I've been in England all summer for the first time ever and have loved every moment. Billy is teaching me to play the guitar; right now I'm appalling, but I'm hoping to improve!” she said.

Hurley, who turned 60 in June, said she celebrated the milestone quietly at home with friends and family and that her son baked a cake. She told the publication she has become more deliberate about balancing work and home life after decades in the industry, choosing projects so she is not away from family for long stretches.

The actress also described recent pastimes with Billy Ray, including adopting two tortoises and taking up bird watching. “We've seen both his daughters play in London, which was great. He's very supportive, and that feels nice,” Hurley told The Mirror.

Miley Cyrus’s remarks come as both her parents navigate new chapters publicly. Tish Cyrus’s marriage to Purcell followed her split from Billy Ray; Miley has said she supports her parents’ happiness and recognizes their lives and relationships as separate from her role as their child.

Representatives for Billy Ray Cyrus, Elizabeth Hurley and Miley Cyrus did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
