Miley Cyrus's latest musical endeavor, "Bass Persuades," is encountering difficulties on the charts shortly after its release. The single has fallen out of Spotify's Global 200 chart after just two days, marking a setback for the artist's return to mainstream chart success.
The track debuted at number 23 on Spotify's Global 200 before dropping to number 123 on its second day and subsequently disappearing from the chart by the third. While its performance on Spotify has been challenging, "Bass Persuades" is performing better on other platforms. It currently holds the number 2 position on iTunes in the United States and reached number 41 on Apple Music's global top 100. In the United Kingdom, the song is predicted to debut at number 13 on the official chart.
"Bass Persuades" represents a shift toward a more mainstream sound for Cyrus, following the commercially underperforming "Something Beautiful." This new single is also her first release under Atlantic Records, after a five-year tenure with Columbia Records. During her time at Columbia, Cyrus released "Something Beautiful" and "Endless Summer Vacation," the latter of which featured her career-defining hit "Flower."
The release of "Bass Persuades" was accompanied by a high-budget music video directed by Mert Alas. The video features Cyrus in scant attire, dancing in various settings, including a dimly lit bar and city streets. The song's lyrics, inspired by an 80s sound, express a desire for a return to analog experiences and a critique of modern reliance on screens, with the chorus urging listeners to engage with the present moment.
The album, also titled "Bass Persuades," is scheduled for release on September 18. In addition to the album and upcoming concerts, Cyrus has announced a rebranding, opting to be known by her first name only. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, has publicly supported this decision, likening it to the mononymous status of music icons such as Cher, Dolly Parton, and Prince.
Cyrus has announced two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl scheduled for October 16 and October 18.
