Michelle Keegan has stepped back from an upcoming ITV drama, choosing to dedicate more time to her daughter, Palma, who recently turned 18 months old. The actress shared a rare glimpse of her child on Instagram, posting photos of Palma with celebratory plaques marking the milestone. The decision to withdraw from the role, where she was set to play a working-class barrister, reportedly came just months before filming was due to begin.
Sources indicated that Keegan's departure was a "huge blow" as she had committed to the project. However, the demanding filming schedule was deemed too extensive, potentially taking her away from Palma for prolonged periods. An insider told The Sun on Sunday that while Keegan was keen on the role, the intense hours and the project's proximity to her Netflix drama "The Woods" made it unfeasible to commit. "She is dedicated to her acting career, but like all working mums has to prioritise being there for her family, juggling work, parenting and being present for Palma," the source added.
Jodie Whittaker is expected to replace Keegan in the ITV drama, tentatively titled "The Blame." Keegan herself is currently promoting the show, which is scheduled for release on September 20. She recently attended a photocall in London with co-star Douglas Booth, dressed in a blue silk shirt and beige leather trousers.
Keegan has previously spoken about the challenges of returning to work after becoming a mother, describing it as "daunting." She told press earlier this year that the production team for "The Blame" had been "so supportive" and that she felt "so looked after." Her husband, Mark Wright, and Keegan married 11 years ago, and they have openly discussed the public scrutiny surrounding their decision to start a family. In a 2025 interview with Grazia magazine, Keegan mentioned the constant speculation and her family's inquiries led her to stop discussing her personal life publicly. She stated, "I'm going to be 38 this year and, as I've got older, I feel more confident about my boundaries."
