Michelle Keegan and Tom Bateman were recently photographed on the set of the upcoming Netflix drama "The Woods," based on Harlan Coben's novel. The pair, who play Lucy Silverfield and barrister Paul 'Cope' Copeland respectively, were seen sharing a moment during a break from filming in Cheshire.
The series follows Paul Copeland, a barrister and single father, whose life is disrupted when the body of a man is discovered twenty years after he was supposedly murdered alongside Paul's sister, Camille, who vanished from a summer camp. Paul becomes convinced his sister may have survived. He reunites with his first love, Lucy Silverfield, to uncover the truth behind years of lies and secrets.
Coben, who created the series and serves as executive producer, noted the personal connection to the story, stating that he worked as a counselor at a sleepaway camp when he was younger, similar to the show's protagonist.
Keegan expressed her excitement about portraying Lucy, highlighting the character's internal struggles. "What's really exciting for me as an actor is that Lucy is dealing with these deep, personal secrets... So, I get to really explore her vulnerability and that emotional push and pull, which just makes the story feel so real and powerful," she said.
Also present on set was James Buckley, 38, who is playing the character Lonnie Berger. This marks Buckley's first appearance since revealing a recent diagnosis of a genetic disease that puts him at high risk of a cardiovascular incident. Buckley shared that he was hospitalized for severe dehydration after blood tests indicated a high level of Lipoprotein(a), a type of inherited blood cholesterol that accelerates plaque buildup in arteries.
"The Woods" follows the success of Keegan's role in the 2024 Netflix drama "Fool Me Once," for which she received critical acclaim. Coben's work has previously been adapted for Netflix, including "Fool Me Once" and "Stay Close."
