Michael J. Fox was honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Emmy Awards for his extensive advocacy and philanthropic efforts supporting Parkinson's disease research.

The honorary award, presented by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, recognizes a television industry figure whose charitable work has had a significant societal impact. This year's ceremony marked Fox's first appearance at the Emmy Awards in 13 years, accompanied by his wife, Tracy Pollan.

Upon accepting the award, Fox received a standing ovation. He addressed his Parkinson's diagnosis, which he received in 1991 at age 29 and publicly revealed in 1998. "Initially, I kept my Parkinson's diagnosis a secret," Fox shared from the stage. "I worried that it would affect my work and my relationship with audiences."

He continued, reflecting on the support he has received: "Would they laugh if they knew I was sick? And then I was stunned by the support I got. The support from all of you. It was so uplifting. It made me feel like I could keep doing this and I hadn't lost what I do and they couldn't take this away from me. And it's because you stood up for me, and I really appreciate it."

During his speech, Fox also provided an update on his foundation's work, stating that they are nearing a breakthrough in finding a cure for Parkinson's disease.

The actor's advocacy has been widely recognized, with social media users expressing admiration for his efforts. Comments on X highlighted Fox's impact in raising awareness for Parkinson's disease, with one user noting that they were aware of the condition from a young age due to his work. Another user called him an "inspiration" for facing his challenges.
