Melissa Lim, the San Francisco photographer long credited with persuading Noel Gallagher to remain with Oasis during the band’s turbulent 1994 U.S. tour, made a surprise appearance in the crowd at Oasis’s sold-out concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Saturday.

Lim, who has been widely described as the inspiration for the acoustic ballad "Talk Tonight," posted an image from the show with the caption "30 years and worth the wait," as fireworks framed the band on stage. Fans and an Oasis fan page shared photographs of Lim speaking with Noel Gallagher at the event and recalled her role in keeping the band together during a critical moment in its early history.

In 1994, Oasis were in the midst of a difficult U.S. tour that culminated in an onstage altercation at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles and rising tensions between Noel and his brother and bandmate, Liam Gallagher. According to accounts that have been repeated in interviews and profiles, Noel flew to San Francisco and stayed with Lim in her Nob Hill apartment. Lim has said she fed and calmed him and urged him not to abandon the band, telling him, "You can't leave the band you're on the verge of something big." That intervention is widely credited with ensuring the release of Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe, and with inspiring "Talk Tonight."

Lim, speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle last year, recalled first meeting Noel at a club in the city in 1994. "He came over and sat down next to me, I had never been backstage before, so I asked him, 'Where's the after-party?' — and he goes, 'What after-party? Can I hang out with you tonight?'" she said. Lim said Noel had been "very upset" and that she tried to calm him and talk him down from breaking up the band.

The Rose Bowl concerts on Friday and Saturday were among the largest dates of Oasis’s reunion tour, which the band resumed after announcing in 2024 that the Gallagher brothers would perform together again for the first time since their 2009 split. The shows drew high-profile attendees, including Paul McCartney, Rita Ora and Leonardo DiCaprio, and were accompanied by a stage production that included fireworks and a full set of Oasis classics.

Photographer Kevin Cummins, who has documented Oasis since the early 1990s and is promoting a new book of images, told the Daily Mail that the dynamics between Noel and Liam onstage have improved and that the pair may be in a position to record new material. "Noel is writing songs all the time, and Liam's voice is well suited to what Noel writes," Cummins said, adding that Liam had shown more maturity and that there appeared to be "a lot of fondness on stage between them." Cummins also said a documentary about the reunion is scheduled to be released next year and suggested that a studio album could follow.

Oasis split in 2009 after a long-running feud between the Gallagher brothers. The pair announced the reunion tour in 2024 and have so far limited interactions off stage while performing together in front of large audiences. Promoters and media reports have noted the financial stakes of a sustained reunion, including sizeable potential earnings for the band if they complete the tour without further public fallouts.

Fans and observers of the band’s history have long pointed to Lim’s role in 1994 as a pivotal moment. Her appearance at the Rose Bowl rekindled those memories for many in the crowd and across social media, as photographs circulated showing Lim and Noel together backstage and in the stands. Lim’s presence served as a reminder of the personal episodes that have shaped Oasis’s rise and the longstanding public interest in the relationship between the Gallagher brothers.

The reunion tour continues through the autumn with a series of stadium dates across the United States and Europe. Organizers and band representatives have not announced any confirmed studio plans, but the combination of onstage chemistry, archival projects and statements from longtime associates has prompted renewed speculation about Oasis’s creative future.
