Melanie Griffith will travel to Spain next month to attend her daughter Stella's wedding and will reunite there with her ex-husband Antonio Banderas, the Málaga-born actor said as he spoke about the plans.
Griffith, the 68-year-old Oscar-nominated actress, was photographed in a Beverly Hills parking garage this week after running errands, where she was described as wearing a long-sleeve white top, dark jeans and designer sunglasses. The wedding is expected to be an "intimate" ceremony in Spain for Stella, 28, who is marrying Alex Gruszynski.
Banderas, 65, told Hola! on Aug. 12 that having the wedding in Spain "fills me with pride," calling Stella "very Andalusian, very much from Málaga, even if she grew up in the U.S." He said the ceremony will be a way for his daughter to "reconnect with her roots and share her homeland with her future husband and his family." Banderas added, "Seeing my daughter dressed as a bride will be one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I get to be the father of the bride, and it's a role I take on with all the emotion in the world." He also described the wedding as "long-awaited," noting that Gruszynski has been part of the family for years and attended preschool in Hollywood with Stella.
Griffith and Banderas met on the set of the 1995 film Two Much and were married in 1996. They divorced in 2014 after an 18-year marriage but have maintained an amicable relationship since then, remaining involved in their children's lives.
Melanie Griffith is the daughter of actress Tippi Hedren and has been nominated for an Academy Award. Her notable films include Arthur Penn's Night Moves (1975), Jonathan Demme's Something Wild (1986), Mike Nichols' Working Girl (1988) and Brian De Palma's The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990). In 2023 Griffith replaced a heart-shaped tattoo that had read "Antonio" with a crossword-style design featuring the names of her four children: Alexander, Dakota, Jesse and Stella.
Her family includes daughter Dakota Johnson, 35, from her marriage to Don Johnson; son Alexander Bauer, 40, from her marriage to Steven Bauer; and stepson Jesse Johnson, 42. Stella is the youngest of Griffith's children.
Griffith is slated to narrate Amanda Kramer's body-swap dramedy By Design, which stars Juliette Lewis and is set to screen Sept. 21 at the Nashville Film Festival. Music Box Films recently acquired North American distribution rights to the film, which holds a 71% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 35 reviews.
The upcoming wedding will bring together members of a multigenerational Hollywood family and mark a public reunion for Griffith and Banderas in the country where he was born. Both have continued to work in film and maintain public profiles while navigating their co-parenting relationship.
