Melanie C, formerly known as Sporty Spice, described the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls' debut single "Wannabe" as a "very emotional day." The track, released on Wednesday, became one of the defining singles of the 1990s, selling over 8 million copies worldwide and spearheading the band's "Girl Power" message.

"We knew exactly what we wanted to achieve but nobody imagined the scale [of what] we went on to do," Melanie Chisholm, her real name, stated. "We went out, we conquered the world. We were told that we couldn't, and we wouldn't. But we did."

Chisholm made these remarks at the Nordoff And Robbins Silver Clef Awards in London, where she was honored with the Global Impact Award. She reflected on the band's legacy as she accepted the accolade.

"It was a very emotional day yesterday," Chisholm said on the red carpet. "We're all in touch obviously, all of the girls, we're so grateful and respectful of each other."

The Spice Girls collectively marked the anniversary on social media. Victoria Beckham commented that the song had "forever changed our lives," while Geri Horner posted, "Thank you to my beautiful spice sisters."

"Wannabe" marked the beginning of the Spice Girls' meteoric rise, a journey that saw them achieve global fame and become cultural icons of the late 20th century.
