Mel C is reportedly set to marry her partner, Australian model and writer Chris Dingwall, this weekend in a countryside setting in the United Kingdom. The singer, 52, has not publicly announced an engagement to Dingwall, who is believed to be in his forties.
All of her Spice Girls bandmates are reportedly invited to the nuptials. This weekend's potential reunion would coincide with the 30th anniversary of the group's debut single, "Wannabe." Victoria Beckham is expected to miss the event due to a prior commitment at the World Cup in the U.S.
Mel C and Dingwall went public with their relationship in 2024, after months of speculation. They reportedly met on the celebrity dating app Raya.
In recent interviews, Mel C has spoken about her relationship with Dingwall. In January, she told The Times, "It's something I didn't think would be part of my story, but I'm so happy with Chris. Maybe it is something that will be in my life." She also shared that elements of her album "Sweat" were inspired by her relationship, noting how the album reflects the "wonderful arc of emotions throughout the album – of heartbreak and then that excitement of a new relationship."
She described Dingwall as "very laid-back. He's loads of fun…we work out together. We have very similar personalities and lifestyles."
Mel C has previously expressed reservations about marriage, and has spoken about how feelings of loneliness during her time with the Spice Girls contributed to her struggles with depression. In her 2022 memoir, she detailed her diagnosis of clinical depression, which intensified following the Spice Girls' split in 2000, alongside issues with binge drinking and eating.
During the height of the Spice Girls' fame in the late 1990s, most of her bandmates were in established relationships. Victoria Beckham married David Beckham and had her first child by 1999. Mel B married Jimmy Gulzar in 1998 and also had her first child, while Emma Bunton began her relationship with Jade Jones in 1999. Geri Halliwell was also involved in high-profile romances, leading Mel C to feel left behind.
Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, she reflected on her adult life being marked by periods of being single. She also noted that concerts during her time with the Spice Girls were primarily attended by young girls and gay men, audience members she described as "the best audience" but which did not lead to romantic encounters. She stated that at times she was the only member of the group without a partner, experiencing what she called a "dry spell."
Her past relationships have included a brief fling with Robbie Williams in 1997, which she later described in her memoir as leaving her heartbroken due to his "badly" behaved. She also had a four-month relationship with J Brown from the band 5ive in 2000, with whom she remains friends.
Mel C was previously in a seven-year relationship with her former manager Joe Marshall, which ended in 2015. She has a 17-year-old daughter, Scarlett, from her previous relationship with Thomas Starr.
