Mel B said she chose Morocco for her second wedding to hairdresser Rory McPhee because it was "the last place that I had a holiday with my dad before he died," describing the North African nation as "a very special place" for her.
The Spice Girl, 50, and McPhee, 37, marked their marriage with two ceremonies: a star-studded service in the Crypt of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on July 5 and a multi-day extravaganza at the Selman Marrakech on Aug. 3. Mel B posted photos from the Marrakech celebration on social media, writing, "We got married!!! Again! A wedding so good we keep the celebration going with our closest and dearest in our fav place at @selmanmarrakech ❤️❤️❤️ we had the time of our lives!!"
The Marrakech events spanned three days and included a Friday dinner, what attendees described as a "spiritual ceremony," and dinner and dancing on Saturday. Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm, Emma Bunton and other friends and colleagues attended the festivities. Mel B wore a pearl-adorned red strapless gown with a high split for the Moroccan celebration; the London ceremony also drew a number of well-known guests, including supermodel Cara Delevingne, comedian Katherine Ryan and Daisy Lowe.
Caroline Black of London-based Evelie Bridal, who helped style the pearl-adorned gown, said Mel B wanted a bold red dress that still felt light and easy to move in. McPhee wore a white-and-black tuxedo and bow tie for the Moroccan ceremony.
Mel B, who performs as Melanie Brown, said Morocco holds strong personal memories because it was the destination of the last holiday she took with her father, Martin Brown, before he died in 2017. Martin Brown died at age 63 after a five-year battle with multiple myeloma; Mel B announced his death in an emotional Instagram post at the time.
The couple have been together for several years. McPhee proposed in October 2022 after about three years of dating. In interviews since the ceremonies, Mel B said the pair have long been together and are now balancing busy careers in different countries; she noted that work has kept them temporarily apart but allowed time for the significance of the weddings to settle.
Mel B continues her role as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, a position she first took on in 2013. She and Emma Bunton also appear on Apple TV+’s music series KPOPPED, which pairs Western artists with K-pop acts; Mel B and Bunton performed alongside members of ITZY, singing remixed versions of Spice Girls hits including "Wannabe" and "Say You’ll Be There." Other Western stars on the show’s first season include Patti LaBelle, Boy George, Kylie Minogue, Boyz II Men and Eve.
The London and Marrakech ceremonies followed years of public appearances and projects for the former Spice Girls singer. Mel B said she chose to return to Morocco for the celebration in part to honor family memories and because she loves the country’s culture, food, people and music. The couple have not announced further plans for a honeymoon, saying instead that they will continue balancing work and personal life as newlyweds.
