Maura Higgins has officially been announced as the host for the upcoming reboot of the dating show "Blind Date." The announcement was made on Wednesday by Disney+, the network set to air the program.

Higgins, 35, a former contestant on "Love Island," had been rumored to be in contention for the role since June. She will be stepping into the hosting position previously held by the late Cilla Black.

Angela Jain, head of content at Disney+ EMEA, stated that Higgins is an ideal fit for the show. "Maura is the perfect match for our version of Blind Date," Jain said in a statement. "Her distinctive straight-talking humour, coupled with her experience as a reality dating show contestant, means we know she has the gravitas plus the wit to bring Blind Date to new audiences. We’re very much looking forward to Maura helping our daters navigate their own journeys to find love as she steps into the famed Blind Date host role."

This new role marks Higgins' most significant television job to date. The "Blind Date" reboot is scheduled to air on Disney+.
