Julie Goodwin, the winner of the inaugural season of MasterChef Australia, was photographed arriving at Sydney Airport on Sunday appearing notably slim, days after she publicly addressed followers' concerns about her recent weight loss.

Goodwin, 54, arrived with her husband of 30 years, Michael, and was seen collecting luggage and leaving the terminal before the pair got into a waiting car. The couple had been in Broome to take part in events promoting Tourism Western Australia, including the Shinju Matsuri, or Festival of the Pearl.

Photographs from the arrival show Goodwin dressed casually in khaki trousers, a floral blouse and a puffer jacket, wearing sneakers, drop pearl earrings and her trademark thick-rimmed glasses. Michael Goodwin wore a simple black T-shirt and shorts.

The appearance followed an Instagram post in which some followers expressed alarm at the scale of her weight loss. Goodwin issued a statement on the platform to address those concerns, saying she is well and that her doctor "concurs" she is within a healthy weight range. She added that she is not qualified to provide medical or dieting advice and asked critics to stop commenting on her body, saying she would turn off comments on the post.

"Thanks to all who have expressed concern about my health. I am well, and I am within the healthy weight range. My doctor concurs," Goodwin wrote. "For those who want to comment on the shape and condition of my body, please do it on your own page because I'm tired of reading it. For that reason, I'll be turning off comments on this post. For all of us, can we please find something more interesting to talk about? Can we please model kindness to our kids and grandkids, and can we please leave this obsession with people's looks back in the 1980s? Peace and love."

The Instagram post drew a range of responses from followers. Some expressed worry and asked if she was ill; others defended Goodwin and praised her appearance and health. Comments included concerns such as "too much weight loss" and "are you okay, Julie?" as well as support urging others to cease commenting on her body and noting that a doctor had cleared her health.

Goodwin previously documented a significant weight change nearly a decade ago, when she said she lost about 20 kilograms in what she described as an "accidental" transformation. She rose to national prominence after winning MasterChef Australia in 2009 and has since worked as a cookbook author and media personality.

Representatives for Goodwin did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment. The couple’s Broome appearances were part of Tourism Western Australia's program of events, and the Shinju Matsuri festival is an annual celebration of the region’s pearling and multicultural heritage.

Goodwin's statement and the airport photos underscore ongoing public interest in the personal lives and appearance of public figures, and her response reflects a call for privacy and a reminder to defer medical advice to clinicians.
