Robert Cosby Jr., the 21-year-old son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member Mary Cosby, was arrested over the weekend on multiple charges, including criminal trespassing, assault, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and three alleged violations of a court order, police and media reports said.
According to TMZ, officers responded to a domestic violence report and found that Robert Jr. had attempted to force entry into his father-in-law’s home by trying to crawl through a dog door and had allegedly assaulted someone on the front lawn. The arrest report says a responding officer ordered him to get on the ground; he initially failed to comply before being taken into custody.
The latest arrest follows a 2022 DUI incident in which Robert Jr. pleaded guilty to driving without a valid license and other traffic violations, according to court records reported at the time. Those earlier proceedings included allegations that he violated terms of a court-ordered rehabilitation stay by failing to demonstrate completion of the program.
Mary Cosby has publicly discussed her son’s struggles with substance use and mental health on her Bravo series. In a season five episode that aired in November 2024, Robert Jr. told his mother he began using drugs at about age 16 and recounted experimenting with Xanax and other substances. He described escalating use that culminated in a point when he was taking high doses of prescription pills and could no longer feel their effects.
Cosby later addressed his treatment on television and in interviews. In December 2024 she discussed his rehabilitation on Watch What Happens Live and spoke tearfully about his progress during the RHOSLC reunion, saying he had become a “new person” after treatment. She also told SiriusXM’s Reality Checked earlier this week that she is encouraging and supporting him while acknowledging the difficulty of his recovery, adding that her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., is "devastated." Mary has said she views the path to sobriety as a "hardcore road" and has previously said public figures, including Rihanna, reached out with support.
Court records and the booking details for the most recent arrest were not immediately available for confirmation. Law enforcement officials have not released a public statement beyond the information in the responding officer’s report as summarized by media outlets.
Robert Jr.’s legal troubles have drawn attention because of the family's visibility on reality television. The Cosbys have shown elements of their private lives on camera, including scenes addressing Robert Jr.’s addiction and treatment efforts. The legal process from the weekend incident could include arraignment and possible bail hearings; specifics will depend on formal charging decisions by prosecutors.
Representatives for Mary Cosby and the Salt Lake City Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Bravo, which airs Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, also did not provide immediate comment when contacted.
The incident adds to a record of prior encounters with the law for Robert Jr. and underscores the challenges the family has described publicly as they contend with addiction and its legal and personal consequences.
