San Diego is once again the epicenter of pop culture as Comic-Con International opens its doors, drawing an expected 120,000 attendees for a four-day celebration of film, television, and gaming. This year's convention features significant presentations from major studios, including Marvel Studios and DC Studios, alongside panels on a wide range of entertainment topics.
Marvel Studios is leveraging Hall H, the convention's largest venue, to build anticipation for the December release of “Avengers: Doomsday.” The studio's presence comes as interest in superhero films has seen shifts, and its Hall H panel on Saturday is among the most anticipated events.
DC Studios will also host a presentation in Hall H on Friday, focusing on its HBO series “Lanterns.” The studio plans to feature stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, and will offer an activation in the Gaslamp Quarter.
A Look Ahead at Convention Highlights
Beyond the major superhero franchises, Comic-Con 2026 offers a diverse program. Fans can expect updates on the video game front, with new titles featuring characters like Wolverine and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Discussions on movie poster art and even a panel titled “Hollywood’s Love Affair With Fencing” are also on the schedule, with actors from Iron Maiden and the show “Ghosts” slated to appear.
Apple TV will also have a presence, celebrating the 19 Emmy nominations for its comedy-horror series “Widow’s Bay” with a Saturday visit to the convention center.
Interest is also high for a Friday panel dedicated to “Spaceballs: The New One.” The sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 parody is set for release next year and will see Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman reprising their roles. Brooks himself is expected to be involved with the project.
Attendees at the convention can also find exclusive merchandise, such as a $25 “KPop Demon Hunters”-themed Hot Wheels Porsche 911 and a $60 “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” customizable Funko figure set. The event, which began in 1970 with a few hundred fans, has grown into a massive four-day expo encompassing cosplay contests, autograph sessions, concerts, and numerous interactive experiences.
