Martha Stewart revealed on the Today show that she has received 'lots of people' sliding into her direct messages since her viral thirst traps began, and that she is currently single.
During the appearance, co-host Jenna Bush Hager asked who slid into her DMs. 'Lots of people,' Stewart replied, adding that she has many friends who keep her happy.
Stewart's thirst-trap posting began in 2020. The breakout moment came with a poolside selfie in East Hampton that showed her stepping from the water in a black bathing suit, frosty pink lipstick and shimmery makeup. She recalled captioning it, 'My pool in East Hampton is the place to be on a 89 degree day! After all these years, It is a fun place to swim!!!' The image helped catalyze a new public persona, and Stewart has since embraced provocative content as part of her brand, saying she enjoys posting those photos because 'it's just fun.'
Her thirst-trap persona has led to endorsements and opportunities beyond her earlier career in home living. In May 2023, Stewart made history as the oldest person to appear on Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit issue cover, posing in a daring white one-piece with a plunging neckline.
In discussing aging, she has described the topic as boring. Speaking with People magazine in 2023 about aging, she said, 'I think all of us should think about good living, successfully living and not aging. The whole aging thing is so boring. You know what I mean?'
During her Today appearance, Stewart, who celebrated another birthday recently, was reminded by Bush Hager that she had turned 84. Stewart deflected, joking, 'Ugh, why do we need to talk about that?' and shifted the conversation back to her work and projects. She reiterated that she is not dating anyone special and that she values her friendships and busy schedule more than romance at this stage of life.
Stewart has repeatedly emphasized that aging is not a focus for her and that she plans to keep exploring new content and partnerships. Her willingness to blend fashion, lifestyle, and a candid public persona continues to attract attention from fans and brands alike, reflecting a broader cultural moment that treats age as a flexible, marketable attribute rather than a limit.
