Martha Stewart marked her 85th birthday by sharing a photo of herself relaxing in a hot tub at her Maine estate and reflected on aging, relationships, and her approach to maintaining her appearance.
Stewart told People magazine that she has never had plastic surgery, stating, "I don't think I need it." Instead, she relies on consistent skincare, facial treatments, and healthy habits. "I use a little bit of fillers. I go maybe once every four months for touch-ups," she explained, describing herself as more of a "maintenance kind of person."
She also discussed her views on companionship as she has gotten older. "Now it's less important," Stewart said when asked about needing a mate. "The older you get, the less you really need a mate, I think. I wouldn't want to be beleaguered with an older, ill person."
Stewart shared a photo of herself in a black swimsuit, unwinding in a bubbling hot tub surrounded by evergreen trees at her sprawling Maine estate. "I am going to use this amazing hot tub every single day I am in maine," she wrote. "Invigorating restorative Therapeutic relaxing."
Fans responded to the birthday post with numerous compliments. Stewart stated that she does not dwell on age, considering 85 "just a number." She added, "I don't want to have a party. It's not a big deal. My goal is to keep learning about everything."
Stewart attributes her youthful appearance in part to her lifelong healthy lifestyle, which includes eating well, moderate alcohol consumption, avoiding smoking, and daily exercise. "I have good genes. My mom looked great at 95," she noted. She also mentioned horseback riding as part of her routine and waking at 3 a.m. daily for puzzles before starting her day.
A Career of Ventures
Stewart, who began her career in modeling before launching a catering business and publishing her first cookbook, Entertaining, has built an extensive empire. She became the first self-made female billionaire in the United States in 1999. Her ventures have included magazines, television shows, retail partnerships, and home products. She has authored over 100 cookbooks and opened restaurants. At 81, she became the oldest model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. Her recent endeavors include a home intelligence app and a skincare line.
Stewart described herself as a "perfectionist" who continues to manage multiple projects simultaneously. "I still like to do many things at the same time. I like to do all the same things I've pretty much always done," she said. "I'd like to have a little bit more free time. I don't have any free time at all—but I'm working on that."
