Married At First Sight will introduce significant changes to its format for the 2027 season, including a strict alcohol limit at dinner parties and adjustments to the expert panel.

Producers have revamped both the show's dinner parties and commitment ceremonies, two of the series' central fixtures. The upcoming season will see a considerable reduction in alcohol availability for participants. Each individual will be permitted only one drink during dinner parties. Furthermore, some couples may be prohibited from keeping alcohol within their private apartments.

These restrictions were reportedly implemented due to concerns about participant welfare and behavior, stemming from arguments that continued away from the cameras in previous seasons. An insider indicated that the rules might be applied on a case-by-case basis, depending on a couple's tendency to become argumentative when drinking.

Expert Panel Changes

The commitment ceremonies will also feature a modified expert lineup. Following the death of long-time expert Mel Schilling in March at age 54, the first two commitment ceremonies of the new season have featured only relationship experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla. While a third expert is expected to join, their exact role remains unconfirmed. Relationship coach Brigitte Zonta, also known as Dr Lurve, was previously rumored to join the show, with production insiders suggesting she had signed on for the fourteenth season. However, she has not yet appeared on the expert couch during the initial filming of commitment ceremonies or been seen observing the dinner parties with Aiken and Rampolla.

Sources have emphasized that Dr Lurve is not intended to replace Schilling, but rather to contribute her expertise in relationships and modern dating. Her specific role in the current season is yet to be publicly confirmed by Channel Nine.

New Cast and Broadcast Date

Filming for the 2027 season is currently underway in Sydney with a new cast of participants. The season will notably feature the experiment's first female same-sex pairing since 2020. Among the revealed participants are Steven Hiles, Tim Bates, James Smith, Chris Colombo, and former Bachelorette contestant Kayne Buik.

The changes come after a turbulent 2026 season that was marked by numerous relationship breakdowns and confrontations. The production overhaul aims to address what has been described internally as 'toxic and deplorable behaviour'.

Married At First Sight is scheduled to return to Channel Nine on February 1, 2027.
