Several participants on the latest season of Married at First Sight Australia have stated they were unaware that their on-screen partners had prior criminal convictions, including charges related to drugs and violence. The revelation has cast a shadow over the popular reality television show.

One groom, Adrian Araouzou, who appeared on the 2025 series, had a conviction for affray in 2017. The BBC learned of this conviction prior to filming, and it was also reported that details of a domestic violence trial had emerged. When questioned, Araouzou reportedly dismissed the information as "false" and stated it was "none of your business."

When asked if Araouzou's on-screen partner had been informed about the affray conviction, Channel 9 and Endemol Shine Australia indicated she had not. The production companies stated that "All participants on MAFS, including Adrian, undergo extensive background checks including police checks." They further noted that the affray conviction occurred nine years prior and resulted in a $400 fine, which they described as "the lowest end of the spectrum for this offence as determined by the court."
