Marisa Abela and Jamie Bogyo were married Saturday at Firle Place in East Sussex in an Old‑Hollywood–inspired ceremony attended by friends and several fellow actors.
The 28‑year‑old actress, known for her role in Back to Black, wore two Emilia Wickstead gowns during the day and evening events; the first featured a drop waist, sculpted off‑the‑shoulder micro‑sleeves and a structured corset with a nine‑foot veil, and she changed later into the ivory Micheline gown for the reception. Bogyo, 31, wore a custom double‑breasted tuxedo by Dunhill. The couple left the ceremony in a white open‑top car amid confetti and applause.
Guests included Kit Harington, who appears opposite Abela in the television series Industry, and Kiernan Shipka. Abela’s Industry co‑star Myha’la as well as drama school friends Liadán Dunlea and Iwan Davis took active roles in the day; Myha’la served as a bridesmaid, and Dunlea and Davis performed a rendition of “May You Never” by John Martyn. The ceremony was officiated by Nate Janis, Bogyo’s best man, and both fathers offered readings.
Abela and Bogyo said they conducted a small legal ceremony at Islington Town Hall the week before, with just their parents present, and made the Firle Place event a celebration tailored to them. "We wrote our own vows," Abela told British Vogue. "We actually did a legal ceremony at Islington Town Hall the week before, which was incredibly special and intimate, with just our parents in attendance and a lunch at one of our favorite local spots afterward. This meant that our ceremony at Firle could be totally unique to us, a real celebration of who we are as people and what we mean to one another. It was the greatest moment of our lives. We cried, of course. Completely overwhelmed. There was just so much love in that room. It was just the most personal, heartfelt ceremony."
The couple incorporated a number of personal touches. Abela walked down the aisle to the theme from Cinema Paradiso, the film the pair watched together early in their relationship, and she wore custom Jimmy Choo Max 150 heels that were reportedly personalized with the couple’s initials on the sole. Ahead of the wedding weekend, Abela wore a custom dress by The Own Studio and a Noel Stewart hat to a rehearsal dinner.
After the ceremony at Firle Place, guests were driven to Soho House Brighton for an intimate dinner and an evening of dancing. Reports said the newlyweds celebrated with champagne, cocktails and canapés before the afterparty.
Abela and Bogyo announced their engagement in July, when the actress shared images of the proposal at Primrose Hill, a location associated with the late singer Amy Winehouse. Abela portrayed Winehouse in the biopic Back to Black, and the couple’s choice of celebratory location was noted as an apparent nod to the singer.
Representatives for Abela and Bogyo did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The couple’s wedding was covered in advance and in images released by attending outlets and social media posts following the service.
