Marisa Abela and Jamie Bogyo were married Saturday in a ceremony at Firle Place, a 15th‑century manor house in Sussex, the couple and guests confirmed.
The ceremony took place in the late afternoon and featured several personal touches that reflected the couple’s early relationship. Abela, 28, walked down the aisle to the theme from Cinema Paradiso, the film that the pair watched together before saying “I love you.” Jamie Bogyo, 31, had his friend Nate Janis serve as best man and officiant. Both the bride’s and groom’s fathers delivered readings, and drama school friends Liadán Dunlea and Iwan Davis performed John Martyn’s “May You Never.”
Photographs obtained by British Vogue show Abela in a satin gown by Emilia Wickstead with a dramatic nine‑foot veil. The dress, described by the magazine as inspired by Audrey Hepburn, featured a drop waist, sculpted off‑the‑shoulder micro‑sleeves and a structured corset. Abela completed her look with custom Jimmy Choo Max 150 heels personalised with the couple’s initials, diamond drop earrings, a sparkling headpiece and a slicked‑back bun.
Bogyo wore a custom double‑breasted tuxedo by Dunhill with black‑and‑white detailing. After the ceremony, Abela changed into a second Emilia Wickstead gown—the Micheline—for the evening reception, a floor‑length column dress with a wide‑set square neckline. Speaking to British Vogue about the second look, Abela said, “It was its own show‑stopping moment with its simplicity and cut, but was slightly more practical, I needed something to be able to dance in!” She added, “I wanted something sexy that really felt like me, and I love tailoring, the sport shorts were perfect, and I could really let loose.”
The couple celebrated with guests under a shower of confetti, accompanying champagne and cocktails and a spread of canapés. Later in the evening attendees were taken to Soho House Brighton for an intimate dinner and dancing.
Abela, who gained international attention for portraying Amy Winehouse in the biopic Back to Black, announced her engagement to Bogyo in July. The couple shared engagement images from Primrose Hill, a location noted as one of Winehouse’s favourite spots. On social media at the time, Bogyo posted a photo with the caption, “She said she’ll think about it!” while Abela commented, “A weeping mess.”
Ahead of the wedding weekend, Abela wore a custom dress by The Own Studio and a Noel Stewart hat for the rehearsal dinner. British Vogue published a collection of images from the day showing details of the ceremony and reception.
Representatives for the couple did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment. The wedding adds to a recent string of high‑profile celebrations involving actors from the British stage and screen, with friends and former classmates from drama school among the principal participants in the couple’s ceremony.
