Margot Robbie has told fans there are no immediate plans for a sequel to Barbie, saying the 2023 film "reached its full potential," and announced her next project, a romantic fantasy opposite Colin Farrell.

The Australian-born actor, 35, who produced and starred in the title role of the $1.4 billion box-office hit, made the comments in an interview with Stellar Magazine. Asked whether a follow-up was in the works, Robbie said bluntly, "There's nothing right now," adding that she finds the most satisfaction in "things or people reaching their full potential." She said Barbie delivered everything she had hoped for.

Robbie also discussed her next film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in which she co-stars with Irish actor Colin Farrell. Described as a romantic fantasy, the film follows two characters who meet by chance and are allowed to relive major turning points in their lives after discovering a strange door in the woods that acts as a portal to their pasts. Robbie said the script "was exquisite and felt very original, magical and romantic," and that she wanted to do a love story. She added that she "would obviously love to do a love story with Colin Farrell." The film is scheduled to be released nationally on Thursday.

The interview also touched on Robbie's personal life. She and husband Tom Ackerley welcomed their first child in Los Angeles in October, and the actor said returning to work less than a year after becoming a mother has been significant. "I don't even know how to sum it all up in a neat sound bite. It's too big," she said. In earlier comments she described parenthood simply as "the best." Robbie took time away from acting following the birth of her son before returning to the set for her new film.

Robbie spoke candidly about her approach to diet and fitness in separate interviews. In Emirates Woman she said she tends to indulge but will eat "clean" in the lead-up to a movie, typically choosing porridge with blackberries or a kale-and-apple smoothie for breakfast. She said she bans saturated fats, fast food, sugary drinks and chocolate when preparing for an event. In a conversation with Women's Health, she credited Pilates — which she said she embraced after moving to Los Angeles in 2013 — with helping her feel better after a good stretch.

Robbie produced Barbie in addition to starring in the film, which became a cultural and commercial phenomenon following its release, and her comments reflect a common stance among actors who choose to move on after a major, defining project. She has not outlined plans for further Barbie stories or spin-offs, and did not say whether other members of the Barbie creative team are considering future projects tied to the franchise.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey pairs Robbie with Farrell, who has worked across drama and genre films and has received acclaim for roles in both mainstream and independent projects. The film's premise, combining fantasy elements with a focus on memory and pivotal life moments, marks a tonal shift from the satirical and genre-blending approach of Barbie.

Robbie's remarks come as audiences and industry observers continue to track the careers of actors who led globally successful films, and as studios weigh sequels and franchise extensions against the finite artistic aims of individual filmmakers and stars. For now, Robbie has framed Barbie as a completed chapter and is moving forward with a project she described as an "original, magical and romantic" love story with Farrell.
