Margot Robbie stepped out in New York's SoHo neighborhood on Tuesday in a form-fitting black-and-white mini dress as she continued promotional appearances for her new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.
The 35-year-old actress, who returned to work less than a year after the birth of her son last October, paired the short dress with slingback heels, wide designer sunglasses and a sleek hairstyle with loose waves. She left her hotel en route to a scheduled engagement in the city as part of a publicity push alongside co-star Colin Farrell.
Robbie and Farrell appeared the same morning on BBC Radio 2 in the U.K., where an exchange about Kylie Minogue drew attention. Host Scott Mills told Robbie that Minogue had said she would like Robbie to play her in a film about her life. Robbie responded with surprise and delight, saying, "She did not?! Why has nobody ever told me this before?! That is wild information!" She added, "I am beyond honoured. Of course I could not, I can't sing, I can't sing like Kylie. I don't like it when people can't actually sing and do a singing movie you know..." Farrell said Minogue had called Robbie her "dream choice" to portray her.
Robbie has been appearing at screenings and promotional events for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which opens in cinemas on Sept. 19. The film follows Sarah (Robbie) and David (Farrell), two strangers who meet at a mutual friend's wedding and then discover a mysterious door in the woods that acts as a portal to revisit their pasts. The story explores core memories, including David's unrequited love and Sarah's experience of her mother's death. The cast also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Billy Magnussen and Jodie Turner-Smith.
Sony Pictures released the film's first trailer in June. Early footage drew strong reactions from some viewers on social media, with portions of the online response calling the film among the year's best. Robbie described the script as "exquisite and felt very original, magical and romantic," and said she wanted to do a love story, adding she would "obviously love to do a love story with Colin Farrell."
Robbie's return to the spotlight comes after a break from acting to give birth last October. She rose to wider international prominence as both star and producer of 2023's Barbie, which was released through her LuckyChap company and went on to top box-office charts, earning about $636.2 million domestically and $1.445 billion worldwide.
Speaking previously about motherhood, Robbie has said the experience is difficult to encapsulate for someone without children, calling it "the best." She has credited Pilates with maintaining her fitness and has spoken in interviews about enjoying ordinary pleasures such as drinking pints and eating cheeseburgers.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will be in theaters beginning Sept. 19, and Robbie and Farrell are scheduled for additional promotional appearances in the coming days.
